MOSAIC examines how regions and industries can navigate green transitions by combining historical evidence, data, modelling and stakeholder insights to identify pathways that strengthen competitiveness, resilience and adaptive capacity across Europe.

MOSAIC examines how past industrial decline, renewal and environmental change have shaped Europe’s capacity for green transition, drawing lessons from historical evidence and case studies to inform future policies.
The project maps the development of green industries and regions across Europe while examining how workers move into emerging green sectors, with particular attention to inclusion, justice, gender, age and the role of institutions.
MOSAIC investigates how regions can move beyond established economic pathways and develop new green activities through transformative innovation, effective policy mixes and governance arrangements.
The project uses simulation models and participatory foresight to explore how firms, workers and regions may respond to policies and economic shocks, with a focus on both vulnerable sectors such as coal, steel and automotive and emerging sectors such as renewables and green technologies.
